Laughing Water is a round hard-wall yurt at Elk Hollow, tucked into the trees with a stream running just below the deck. A community trail with footbridges and benches winds through the woods nearby. The loudest things here are birdsong, the stream, and the wind in the trees.

🚗 GETTING HERE
The arrival is part of it: a wooded trail of about 38 steps leads up to the deck, with five more down to the fire pit. It earns the seclusion, but it’s a real climb, so pack light and skip this one if stairs are a problem. Easy drive in otherwise, no 4WD needed. Five minutes from downtown Bryson City, right by the Deep Creek entrance to the Smokies.

🔒 Important Policies & Rate Notes

A $500 refundable security hold is placed 2 days before arrival and released 2 days after checkout. It lets us keep the property quiet and gives our housekeeping team the time to prepare your stay properly.

Access is the big one: about 38 steps up a wooded trail to the deck, plus five down to the fire pit. It's a real climb that buys the seclusion, but pack light and skip this yurt if stairs are a problem.

No pets. No smoking or vaping indoors, since the smell settles into soft furnishings and doesn't come out.

Built for two adults. An infant under 24 months is welcome, but the yurt isn't childproofed and we don't provide a crib, so bring what your little one needs.

🔑 Self check-in
No lobby, no front desk. You check yourself in with the smart lock. We send detailed check-in instructions by text and email before you arrive. Walk up, punch in the code, you're in.

📞 A host who answers fast
Jeanetta responds within the hour and keeps a 100% response rate across the property, and responsiveness is the thing guests mention most. If anything looks off when you arrive, message us and we'll sort it.

🧴 Stocked for you
Fresh linens, towels, bath basics, coffee, and a kitchen stocked with pots, pans, and spices. Guests routinely note how little they had to bring.

📷 Exterior cameras only
There are exterior security cameras on the property for safety. None face the hot tub, the deck seating, or anywhere inside the yurt. Your privacy on the deck and in the tub is the whole point.

🚿 Deep Creek Waterfall Loop, 5 minutes away
Three waterfalls, Juney Whank, Tom Branch, and Indian Creek, on an easy 2.4-mile loop. In warmer months, rent a tube and float the creek. Horseback riding runs through the forest.

🚂 Great Smoky Mountains Railroad
Scenic rides from town, plus seasonal runs like the Polar Express and the Moonshine Train.

🎣 Fly fishing and tubing
Bryson City is the Fly Fishing Capital of the South. Try the Tuckasegee River, or spend the day tubing clear water.

🌲 Road to Nowhere
A short drive to a 1,000-foot tunnel at the end of an abandoned road. Good rainy-day trip. Bring a flashlight.

🌊 Nantahala Outdoor Center
Whitewater rafting, kayaking, and ziplining, a short drive out. Good for first-timers.

🍂 Cherokee and Oconaluftee
The outdoor drama "Unto These Hills," and elk near the visitor center at sunset. About 20 minutes.

🛍️ Downtown Bryson City
Restaurants, shops, breweries, bakeries, galleries, and live music, five minutes away.

🏍️ Tail of the Dragon
318 curves in 11 miles. Motorcyclists plan trips around it.

❄️ Cataloochee and Biltmore
Ski in winter, or tour the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Both within 1 to 2 hours.

Jeanette’s yurt was such a unique place to stay! The yurt was beautifully decorated and looked just like the pictures. We enjoyed the privacy and soaking in the bathtub. Since the yurt is located in the woods down by a stream, we did encounter lots of spiders outside, especially at night. This is probably to be expected in the woods, but our fear kept us indoors at night in the spider-free safety of the yurt!

What an incredible place. We celebrated my wife's birthday there and were searching for a quiet place in nature to unplug, reflect and decompress. Perfect on ALL counts. Quality constructed and beautiful home located beside a small mountain stream with plenty of nature and privacy. The house is thoughtfully decorated and well appointed. Close to surrounding activities but nestled in a very private location. I cooked most meals there in a great kitchen and we ate outside on the deck listening to the Laughing Water... Jeanetta was very proactive and responded as quickly as I've seen. We highly recommend staying here and are looking forward to coming back!! Wes and Cindy

We had a wonderful time. Place was spotless. We loved the yurt. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Of course the hot tub was great and the bathtub inside the yurt was fantastic. Everything was as described. Jeanetta was very attentive. She was a wonderful host. We look forward to returning next year for our 25th wedding anniversary.
