Swallowtail is a canvas safari tent at Elk Hollow, named for the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and decorated to match: bold yellows, oranges, and greens, joyful and a little whimsical. It’s built for two couples or a double date who want two real bedrooms and two full baths, and it’s the one tent we open up for elopements and small gatherings.
This is glamping, not camping. The walls are canvas, but the comforts aren’t: two spa-style baths, a full kitchen, heat and AC, WiFi, Smart TVs, and keyless entry. You’ll fall asleep to the forest through the windows, which is the point.

🚗 GETTING HERE
Here’s what sets Swallowtail apart from the other group tents: from parking, a gentle ramp takes you to the main deck and hot tub with no steps, the easiest-access group tent on the property. The fire pit is down a sloped path. Five minutes from downtown Bryson City, right by the Deep Creek entrance to the Smokies.
➳ GOOD TO KNOW
It’s a canvas safari tent, so you’ll hear the rain, the birds, and a bit more of the outdoors than a cabin. Two more double-suite tents, Foxfire and Serengeti, are within walking distance; book all three for a bigger group or an event party, and know that when they’re occupied you’ll hear some of your neighbours, since canvas isn’t soundproof. Glamping, with two spa baths, a full kitchen, and heat and AC, not roughing it, but the canvas is real and worth picturing before you book.
